Thank you does not seem like enough to say for all the volunteers who made the Women’s Christmas Dinner so special this year, but it is all I know to say! Over 80 people volunteered, the hostesses who decorated the tables, the wonderful waiters who served the ladies, Jason Acega, Jason Landers and Donald Lowry who sang and Joshua and Caleb Arcega and Scott Rear who were musicians. A very special thank you to Debbie Garmon, Kathee Hawkins and Denise Hopkins whose help was just great both days. Rev. Diane Parrish brought us a wonderful message, let’s all remember to leave Christ in Christmas this year and keep Him first in our lives every day of 2012.

K through 8th grade who have experienced grief due to death,
divorce, or other loss. HMUMC offers six sessions in the fall and

Imagine increasing communication between Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, parents and group leaders. Add increasing security by the use of stations located throughout the church for family check-in with matching parent/child tags. This new automated system would also provide paging or texting for children birth through youth with increased accuracy of information and elimination of hours of manual entry. It would also eliminate the use of outdated pagers that are in need of being replaced in the future. There are so many benefits to using this software which is available, but the computers are not!

Our hope is to improve the safety of our children by printing a name tag for each child each time they are here. Our goal is to start with six stations throughout the church. We are looking for a few laptop computers with wireless capability to enable us to carry out the above. So, how can you help? Donate a gently used laptop or make a donation towards helping to purchase the equipment needed. On behalf of the Red Cross and all those who will receive the gift of blood from the donors at HMUMC--thank you!. Summer is always a time of extreme need for blood and due to your generosity and willingness to give of yourselves and your time (and especially to our first time donors who worked up the courage to donate) we collected 48 units of blood.

None of this happens without the support of our pastors and church staff and the volunteers who worked before and the day of the drive. Those who donated (or tried to donate) blood are our heroes and it is a blessing to see God working through them to anonymously help someone in need of this great gift.

card to those on the prayer list.

• Greeter: One Sunday per month to greet incoming guests at one

• Receptionist: Pick a day or more Monday-Thursday and assist

the church staff by answering the phones.

• Meal Provider: Once or twice a quarter prepare a home-cooked

meal for church families in need.

• Coffee Host/Hostess: One Sunday per month, assist with the

Sunday Morning Coffee Break between the 9:30am and 11:00am

worship services.

• 10 Minute Party Host/Hostess: Select a worship service and

welcome guests afterwards at our lemonade and cookie reception.

Red Cross Summer Blood Drive Monday, June 13

The annual HMUMC Blood Drive is from 1:00pm - 7:00pm in

the Great Room. Sign up online at www.redcrossblood.org using

passcode: hamumc (all lower case) or sign up in the Narthex

before or after worship services through Sunday, June 12. Bring

your Red Cross donor card or a photo ID when you make your

donation. Volunteers are needed to work in 2-hour shifts with

Angel Food Ministries needs your help during the summer

months. With children home from school, some families find

it harder financially. Please help donate to a family in need. A

“Bread of Life” signature box is only $35 and will provide a family

of four food for one week. Drop off checks in the front office, with

Angel Food Order in the memo line and we will find the family!

Order deadline is Sunday, June 19 with distribution on Saturday,

June 25.

There are many ways to volunteer and show others the love of

• Hospitality Host/Hostess: Greet guests at the Welcome Center

each Sunday before services.

• Card Writer: Once a month in the comfort of your home, write a

card to those on the prayer list.

• Greeter: One Sunday per month to greet incoming guests at one

of the church entry doors before the 9:30am worship service.

• Receptionist: Pick a day or more Monday-Thursday and assist

the church staff by answering the phones.

• Meal Provider: Once or twice a quarter prepare a home-cooked

meal for church families in need.

• Coffee Host/Hostess: One Sunday per month, assist with the

Sunday Morning Coffee Break between the 9:30am and 11:00am

worship services.

• 10 Minute Party Host/Hostess: Select a worship service and

welcome guests afterwards at our lemonade and cookie reception.

Sixth Sunday of Lent

Sixth Sunday of Lent

Two purple banners are hanging in the sanctuary for the season

of Lent. The purple color is used to symbolize the season of preparation

and penitence. The gray on the banners stands for humility while red is

for the blood shed and brown indicates the sadness.

The first banner has three crosses representing Christ and the

two thieves. The crosses are progressively larger, indicating the time

passing as we draw nearer to the crucifixion. The three nails stand for

the wounds Christ received as He was nailed to the cross and remind

us of the Holy Trinity that comes to fullness at the Resurrection. The

crown of thorns depicts the humiliation Christ endured for us and the

drop of blood is the tear He shed as well as the blood of sacrifice.

The second banner contains the words to a special hymn of the

Lenten season that calls us to responsibility in the crucifixion and calls

us to respond for His glory.

I would like to cordially invite any interested volunteers for our technical media team to a meeting this Sunday that will begin promptly at 1:30 pm -3:30pm in the Chapel. Cosbie Hollenbeck will be leading a preliminary informative and training session on recent equipment upgrades in our Chapel. The requirements are that you possess a volunteer and a servants heart and have some sort of technical background with audio or video equipment. Lunch will be provided for all participants.
